Wow, my own blog! Cat's got my tongue, my brain, my fingers. Gotta write sumpin'.

Being cursed for life with being a Chicago Cub fan (I was born there), I of course listened to the Voice of the Cubs, Harry Caray, for untold hours. One of Harry's favorite expressions, in addition to "There is danger here, cherie", was "Big possums walk late". He would employ that optimism when the Cubs were eight or ten runs down going into the late innings. Rarely did big possums walk late in that situation, but the sentiment was heartfelt and has stayed with me to this day. Hey, any team can have a bad century and we've still got two years before the centennial of that last World Series win and it's only been 61 years since our last appearance.

I'm a long way today from the Friendly Confines of Wrigley down here deep in the heart of Texas. I live in a county where no democrat has ever been elected to any office. I'm not sure any have ever even run for office. This county is the only one in Texas that voted not to secede from the Union.  I'm a precinct chairman and election judge. They only have to call me "your honor" on election day. George Bush ticks me off with his stand on amnesty for immigrants and a few other things, but I'm thankful he's prez and not that other jerk with the phony medal. And then there's Reid and Pelosi and Durbin and the SCOTUS, but don't get me started. I'm a Republican who doesn't think the flag needs the protection of a constitutional amendment and I attend no meetings of any organized religion.

So my plan for Big Possum is to have him walk late...you won't see breaking news here, only well researched and reasoned opinions which you are free to disagree with of course.

Cubs at Brewers tonight. I couldn't care less about the World Cup.
